Alice Figes is a writer, researcher and documentary filmmaker based in London.
She is finishing a PhD in politics at the University of Cambridge. Her thesis, Utopianism at the End of History, is about movements that kept imagining a different world after the Cold War, when many people said there was no alternative. It draws on movements from across Europe, North America and Latin America, with a special interest in Brazil’s Landless Workers’ Movement (MST), today one of the largest social movements in the world.
Her work combines philosophy with sociological and anthropological methods.
Her journalism has appeared in Dazed, Novara Media, openDemocracy, gal-dem and The New European, and in Italian in Internazionale. She was previously a European correspondent at FT Specialist.
She makes documentaries through Aubade Productions.
